We have broken the half-way mark for summer holidays… only 50% of it left to go! And if you feel like August 2026 has been a very long year, I am with you. I have two children, a 7yr old and a 2yr old. All things would suggest that it would be my 2yr old (still in toddlerhood) who I would find most challenging over the summer holidays given her childcare closes for summer holidays, there are no clubs who will accept her, and she is basically stuck to my side whether I am doing chores, working, or going shopping. But no. I am finding my 7yr old with her sass, bad moods, and ‘demands’ the most challenging of all. I wrote a while back about this ‘inbetween’ season of development around 6-9yr before they become ‘tween’s, and after they have passed early childhood. I know so much of it is preparation for the teen years, and I am genuinely bracing myself hard…
